Traveling Cape, 3/4 front My cousin Tom's second son got married on January 1, 2012 in Monterrey, California.  The location, the brides hometown, was absolutely gorgeous. Potato Kugel I have never eaten kugel before so I'm not sure exactly what it is suppose to be like.  Why did I make it?  Almost bed bound with pneumonia, I've been surfing a lot.  I also discover I had 3 pounds of potatoes that needed to be used immediately.  When I saw someone making this it looked so good, I wanted to give it a try.  However, she used 5 pounds of potatoes; too much for me.

Try 6 = Adaptation of Try 3 Try 6 in Full Color This is the beginning 9 Patch for the 'Dissappearing Nine Patch'.  I wanted to have the three large prints on the bottom + the corduroy for the squares that are not cut.  As you see, it didn't work.  I didn't like  the tiny flowers on dark blue print as an un-cut square.  What to do?  What to do?  The black and white photos really helped me a LOT.

Altered Shirt Front This started as a regular LL Bean shirt from the sale rack.  I thought the deep blue would be great with jeans.  However, the first time I wore it to a small group [about 30], another woman had also taken advantage of the sale.  I decided I wanted to alter mine to make it a bit different.  Plus, the short back and the tummy flattering front make it better than it was.

I finally got up the nerve to use these markers.  Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo before I quilted.  However, I think you can see the marks because I didn't hit all of them.  lol. Today I started painting a background for this challenge.  The fabric was wet, using Tusinko inks, I thought it was too bright.  Now dry, I wonder where did the color go. Solitude beginning The plan is for this to be a rather dark quilt with a light center.  It is hard to believe that vibrant blue is now barely visable.  Experiment and learn.

One of my favorite meals in this hot weather is a salad plate.  However, I do not want to make more than one salad a day.  Therefore, I prefer to make at least 2 salads that keep well in the refrigerator.  For this plate, I made one new salad, the broccoli salad, some fresh organic lettuce mix, and added one old favorite, the cold noodles with a spicy peanut sauce, which I made the day before.

This is my answer to the latest FFF challenge. Not sure if it fills the bill. However, I really had trouble understanding the challenge, so this is what I came up with. Two Ferns, 11" x 16" Three Ferns, 11 " x 16" Like many of you, I had a vision and needed to try to obtain it. Cape Front Finally finished just in time for attending a wedding.  For those of you who haven't been following all of the dying steps, this is a recycled white polyester satin skirt from a wedding dress.    I made up the pattern to fit the pieces of fabric.    Because of the sheen to the fabric, the look of the color changes with the light.     Cape Back I think this is the closest to the real

My Cornelian Cherry Tree is in bloom. It is a very small show because the blooms are soo small. Each bloom is about half the size of a little finger nail or about 3/8" each.  I tried to get close up, but they all got too fuzzy.  After the icy rain yesterday [snow north of me], this is a wonderful sign of spring on this Easter day.

A friend took photos of my two quilts that were in the special exhibit, "Pretty As A Picture", at MQX.  Both are 12" square. They do not look the same size in the photos. I think "Comfortable" was not pulled flat on the mounting system.  Not sure why.  Glad these little quilts got to be on exhibit. Kitchen Garden 3-18-2011 The tubs getting defrosted are ones I put in the drive\patio to gain more planting space.   Yesterday was warm and sunny. Snow this morning, but the afternoon sun caused some melting.  Before the melting started, the snow was up to the fork in my apricot tree.  Hope it is OK.

Purple dripping and drying I brought some more clothes pins.  I used about 270 in this batch. Ironed and DONEI think this is the last dye. Washed and ready to quiltI think I lost some of the color. That is better now than when I'm wearing it in an April rain.

Actually I went back and re-pinned and dyed part of the piece in hot pink because I thought it was a little lighter than the rest.   Then I iron, pinned and dye painted the whole with transparent ultramarine blue.  I timed it because it seemed to take a long time.  It takes almost 2 hours to do the pinning/clipping and paint.  This is turning out to be quite a process. This Fast Friday Fabric Challenge was in some ways similar to last months challenge. I didn't want to do the same type of tangle, so this time I used fabric. My intent was to fuse it down and then do some free motion.  Unfortunately, I used 'HeatnBond lite'.   After bonding it, some of the pieces released, ie floated un-attached. I am happy to report that I was able to round up about 10.5 pounds of suitable fabric to send to Iraq.  If you are new, this fabric will most likely be used for clothing.  Much of my fabric is not suitable.  However, since I have done this before, I try to catch the BIG sales at Joann's looking both for quilting fabric for me + fabric that might appeal for use in making clothing in Iraq.  I used

Rich and Thick Asparagus Soup I am totally tired of the huge mounds of snow.  Today it is too cold to snow.    I needed a touch of spring = this soup.  As I've stated before, I like my soup thick.
